FORT MYERS---Many squads aimed to grow the chemistry of their team during Florida Gulf Coast University's recent Team Camp. Three schools stood out during my time at this event. I saw the great, the not-so-great, and what the future looks like for the 2017 season.

Cape Coral

The Good

Defense and hustle plays kept them alive in games when they faced offensive droughts. As a team, their free-throw shooting almost always guaranteed two points at the line, which should encourage them to be more eager to attack the basket, aggressively.

The Bad

They take a lot of threes and miss most of them. Unfortunately for Cape Coral, their patient offense tends to create a lot of open looks from beyond the arc, but as tempting as it is for them to take those shots, they simply just don’t drop.

The Bottom Line

Cape Coral needs more production from the second unit in order to lift some of the pressure off of their impact players.

Southwest Florida Christian Academy

The Good

This squad dons a dynamic offense that can kill you at the rim, or from 23-feet-out. Southwest Florida Christian has no shortage of firepower. The Kings handle business on the other end of the court by taking charges, causing turnovers, and contesting shots.

The Bad

The 2-3 zone defense they run is not without its limitations. The King’s are still suscepitable to teams that attack the gaps and get good looks at the three.

The Bottom Line

When this team gets going there isn’t much else to do but sit and wait, because they have to miss eventually, right?

Dunbar High School

The Good

There is always a chance to win a basketball game as long as a team displays heart and a willingness to hustle. This Dunbar teams appears to be in abundance of both of those traits. What they lack in size, they make up for in effort.

The Bad

Unfortunately for Dunbar, there isn’t enough depth in the front-court to sustain a necessary presence in the paint. However, there is enough potential at guard to consider running a small ball line-up for short stretches.

The Bottom Line

This Dunbar team is probably two players away from making some serious noise, but until then they have to continue relying on their guard play.
