GAINESVILLE - On Friday the Gainesville Hurricanes softball team hosted the Orange Park Raiders.
Both teams had a good amount of fan support in the crowd, and they both made their presence known early.
Hurricane Pitcher Alyssa Humphrey set the tone and handled business early for her team. She started the game with laser precision, by throwing five straight strikeouts.
The Raiders responded early with their own tough pitching and were able to keep the game scoreless after two innings. The beginning of the third inning is when the battle became one sided.

In the top, Humprey kept the switch on and stroke out three more raiders. In the bottom, Outfielders Callen Delucas and Maggie Willis two hits were able to get runs, putting the Hurricanes on a roll.
Jackie Chronister found a groove and hit the ball confidently in the game bringing the score to 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. The comeback seemed very unlikely, yet the Raiders showed true character by still encouraging one another.
Junior Catcher Addyson Mauldin remained positive to her teammates and opposing players as a good sport, even with the opposing team well ahead.
Orange Park head coach spoke about how much of leader he has in Mauldin and how she is helpful for the team.
"Our pitcher for most of the season is out with an injury and we have two freshmen pitchers trying to understand the game more, Addyson has helped them out and been positive keeping her teammates up in anyway", said Head Coach Lee Taylor, Orange Park Raider Head Coach
As the game continued, the encouragement helped her team play better and they scored the following inning.
The final score was 7-1. However, what won't show up on the stat sheet, is the respect and example of sportsmanship displayed by both teams.
